Distressed Composition
This collection was inspired by an embroidered beetle wing garment from the Victoria and Albert museum. These were popular among western women based in India and Europe from 19th to 20th century. I was drawn to the lustre of the shifting colours in changing light conditions. My aim was to recreate the structural forms and tonal values within a piece of hand dyed and printed textile. I photographed an embroidered garment from the VADs collection at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham and observed petals which shared similar tonal qualities. Using light as a tool for pattern development and a unique experimental technique for printing, I produced a series of screen printed silks. These have a unique textured surface quality and respond beautifully to light. Photographed by Abeer Kayani.

I also studied flower petals which shared similar tonal characteristics. Using light as a tool for pattern development and a unique experimental technique for printing, I produced a series of screen printed silks.
